The first Common Darter recorded this year was seen by Paul Brewster at Neumann's Flash (67S SJ667754) today.

Brian Tollitt reports a couple of Black-tailed Skimmer and a few Four-spotted Chaser at Rixton Claypits (69V SJ685907) today. At Danes Moss (97A SJ905705) a pair of Four-spotted Chaser were ovipositing in the company of a few Large Red Damselfly and Azure Damselfly.

From the Millennium Pond on Mudhurst Lane, Disley (98W SJ981831), Brian Ainscough reports one Four-spotted Chaser and a three Broad-bodied Chaser with Large Red Damselfly,and Azure Damselfly. At Anderton Nature Park (67M SJ651751) Pete Leicester saw plenty of Red-eyed Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly, and Azure Damselfly, with a few Large Red Damselfly and Four-spotted Chaser.

Lots of Black-tailed Skimmer were flying at Plumley Nature Reserve (77C SJ709751) reports Richard Gabb. Meanwhile at Black Lake (57F SJ537709) Vicky Nall found plenty of Four-spotted Chaser, Large Red Damselfly,and Azure Damselfly with single Common Hawker and Emperor Dragonfly.

Chris Storey returned to Quarry Bank Mill (88G SJ831832) and found several Banded Demoiselle and Large Red Damselfly flying along the Bollin.

There were several Hairy Dragonfly along with Banded Demoiselle and Azure Damselfly at Vale Royal Locks (66P SJ643698) today when Pete Leicester visited the Weaver.

Ian Brodie called at Danes Moss (97A SJ905705) where there were Four-spotted Chaser and a single Broad-bodied Chaser with Large Red Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly, and Azure Damselfly.

I took a stroll down to Shemmy Moss (56Z SJ598688) this morning and found masses of damselflies and plenty of dragonflies on the wing alongside the Whitegate Way. The were lots of Four-spotted Chaser, and many Downy Emerald with Large Red Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly, and Azure Damselfly. Moving on to Billinge Green Flash (67V SJ682713) there were Hairy Dragonfly, Four-spotted Chaser, Large Red Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly, Red-eyed Damselfly, and Azure Damselfly.

Mat Bingham went again to Vale Royal Locks (66P SJ643698) and this time found much more on the wing, with a couple of Hairy Dragonfly and also Banded Demoiselle and Red-eyed Damselfly amongst others. Michael Read reports Hairy Dragonfly, Red-eyed Damselfly and Variable Damselfly from Churton (45I SJ430565).

Brian Tollitt reports seeing a male Broad-bodied Chaser on a pond at Arley Hall (68Q SJ673807). Down at Anderton Nature Park (67M SJ651753) Dave Higginson-Tranter saw eight species: Large Red Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly, Azure Damselfly, Red-eyed Damselfly, Four-spotted Chaser, and Hairy Dragonfly. The first Common Darter of the year is reported from Anderton Nature Park (67M SJ651751) by Ray Collins.

Whilst at Throstlenest Farm, Lyme Handley (98L SJ947824) today, I spotted a pair of Large Red Damselfly ovipositing.

Don Pawlett visited Farndon (45B SJ412536) today and found just a single teneral female Common Club-tail

Today at Anderton Nature Park (67M SJ651751) were the same species as seen on the 3rd plus a single Banded Demoiselle.

At Rixton Claypits (69V SJ685907) Ian Waller found Four-spotted Chaser, Broad-bodied Chaser, Large Red Damselfly, and Azure Damselfly. Chris Storey was at a pond in Alderley Edge (87N SJ853774) and saw Broad-bodied Chaser and Blue-tailed Damselfly. Over at Gull Pool (66E SJ603686) Janette Renshaw and Richard Gabb both found Downy Emerald and Large Red Damselfly. Moving on to Dairyhouse Meadows (67S SJ663757) she found Broad-bodied Chaser, Common Blue Damselfly, and Large Red Damselfly.

At Red Rocks (28E SJ205882) there were no dragonflies but several Azure Damselfly, Large Red Damselfly, and Blue-tailed Damselfly were present. At Farndon (45E SJ415596) Richard Gabb found a teneral male Common Club-tail.

Six species were on view at Anderton Nature Park (67M SJ651751) when Pete Leicester saw several Large Red Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly, Azure Damselfly, a single Red-eyed Damselfly, and a couple of Four-spotted Chaser.

The second Common Club-tail sighting of the year comes from Farndon (45C SJ403551) where Dermot Smith found a couple of freshly emerged insects.

Jenny and Mike Whiteside report seeing a teneral Broad-bodied Chaser at Burwardsley (55D SJ518567). Meanwhile Mat Bingham was at Vale Royal Locks (66P SJ643698) and only found a single Blue-tailed Damselfly. Brian Tollitt found six Common Club-tail at Aldford (45E SJ415596), the first sighting of this species in 2013.
