Bi-Shui

22nd October 1992

The line from Tumen on the border with North Korea to Dunhua and Jilin passes through some spectacular scenery. At the picturesque village of Bi-Shui a few miles west of Tumen the line crosses a viaduct before plunging into a tunnel. Our early morning visit was rewarded with five trains over about 2½ hours. Here an unidentifed QJ heads the 7.30am passenger service from Tumen.

QJ No.1130 was at the head of the 8.15am departure from Tumen.

Next was QJ No.1158 on a freight working.

Bi Shui was a pleasant place to watch the trains and there was plenty of local farming activity underway. Hand threshing was in progress in one back yard whilst the tobacco harvest can be seen drying in the background of this photograph of a girl leading two bullocks out of the village.

Another view of the 7.30am departure from Tumen.

Another morning train from from Tumen.
